Hi fellow bloggers,
It's time to get cracking on Boogie Nights, our second webisode. Here's what we've got so far (from the leave-behind):
As Chance tries to get over his girlfriend and move on...
Jimmy tries to hook him up with a sure thing.
She's a porn queen.
Chance can't perform in the bedroom... and now his confidence is completely shot.
He watches a porn movie she made...
and he imagines what it would be like to be a porn star...
...being able to perform on cue.
Now, cameras are on him... which makes it even worse for him.
He wants to go back to the privacy of his private life.
But from his experience with the porn queen...
she wrote a porn film about a guy names Lance, who has a problem in the bedroom.
Now, at the Cafe, Chance is famous for being inadequate.
But it turns out that all the girls want to help him get back to his old self.
Let's break this sucker, OK?

OK, I'll go first. I think the thing about the blog is we need to just write stuff down as we think of it. If we all commit to ourselves that we will view the blog often, and post every time we view it, we'll get plenty of ideas out there. Just like in class, there are no dumb ideas. For those who don't speak up as much in class, here's your chance to be heard! OK, 'nuff soap box; I'll save it for another post.
We discussed (in class) that this webisode should be the second in the series, and it makes sense for a couple reasons. Firstly, Chance is still really reeling over the loss of Carly. That is why Jimmy is so intent on fixing him up with a sure thing (you know, "gotta get laid, man, it's time" type of stuff).
Also, the fact that he can't quite get over Carly yet is what causes him to not be able to perform with the porn queen. That makes sense.
Also, we wanted to use this second webisode as an early stage in the Chance/Morgan friendship arc. Therefore, Morgan and Chance need to be majorly at odds. Plus, her and Jimmy should be having their constant rivalry (over causes, Chance's attention, etc.).
And this will be so perfect for all that. Morgan is a sensible person. She knows that Chance needs to heal his wounds, and it is a process that takes time. Jimmy knows the best solution is to get right back out there and get some sex.
Of course, Morgan thinks that porn is total exploitation of women, and a pathetic crutch for horny guys. She hates to see women play into that, and sell themselves short by giving up their body for a few bucks. You get paid once, and people can watch you having sex forever. Hardly a fair deal to Morgan.
Maybe Morgan doesn't try to help Chance quite yet (in this webisode). Maybe she just thinks he's pathetic for following Jimmy's advice, and perhaps doesn't see yet that he's very different from Jimmy. It comes in the next webisodes that she actually tries to help him...
Here's an idea: Morgan rubs it in when the porn thing backfires and everyone thinks he's the pathetic guy who lost his girlfriend and now can't get it up. She is justified by her opposition to this cause. It looks bad for Chance, until girls start coming around to the sympathy angle, and want to help him (like Marilyn Monroe with Tony Curtis in "Some Like it Hot".)
OK, maybe that's enough from me for the moment to get us started. Obviously we need to get to the meat (and beats) of this story lined out...
Come on now! I dare you to post something! Anything?!??!
I was just reading the leave-behind notes and came up with a possible fantasy entrance.
He is laying in his bed with the porn queen, and watching one of her movies (which she brought over to "show him her work"). It is the aftermath of his impotent episode. He comments on the guys in the movie (of course, not crude, we're not showing it, just the light from the porn on TV reflecting on Chance and the porn queen). She rubs his temples and tells him to relax, and "this happens to all guys at some point"...
That can get him into the fantasy, the tender massage moment. He lulls right off into it. Anyone have another idea for it?
By the way, we should name her now too. My first try is Tulip Slider. Or how about Missy Channels? Who is someone Chance would even be willing to bring into his apartment? Maybe I'm going too far out. But Candy Apples is taken I believe! LOL
Come on, let's get some names going...
i think actually hooking up with a porn star to forget about his relationship woes because it's a sure thing is misleading. porn stars aren't prostitutes, per say, well maybe some of them are, or used to be, but that's besides the point. how about jimmy gives chance a porn as a replacement for the real thing, just until he can get back up on his feet? this could spark an argument between jimmy and morgan with chance ending up with the porn to spite morgan. then back at chance's apartment he views the porn and brings him into the fantasy of being a porn star and not being able to perform, which is funny, and also subtext for his life.
what do you guys think of it opening with chase having a nightmare of a sexual encounter with morgan? wakes up screaming. what the hell was that about? then when he sees her at the nowhere later, he feels uncomfortable.
I agree that Jimmy should offer him some porn as a replacement. This makes more sense for the fantasy of Chance not being able to perform when the cameras are on. While he is watching the porno he can be thinking of how he could do it better than the guy in the film. Then in the fantasy he sees the cameras and gets stage fright.
A second idea would be that Jimmy knows the porn star he hooks up with Chance. Chane goes back to his apartment with her and he can't perform and she tells him that it's alright and it happens to a lot of guys. The twist can be that she tells him when she was dating Jimmy it happened to him at one time. Could be a good joke Chance could use on Jimmy later.
I think the best path right now is to have Jimmy offer the porn as replacement. It just seems a bit more plausible and organic. Also, it would probably be more economic, but I digress.
Chris, in your second idea would Chance know she's a pornstar before they hook-up or would it be a reveal later? Maybe Chance is rarin' to go, but when he discovers her profession and his own place in line, he loses his momentum.
As for names... Honey Draper? Rebecca Raven?
i think it'd be better if the porn star stayed in the fantasy. just leave her up to chance's imagination.
man, all the porn star names i can think of have already been taken.
Lexus Love
Jenna Fox
Vikki Nice
Tammy Free
Calypso Sage
Courtney Darling
Kennedy Diamond
Heaven Gates
Ginger Tam
Billi Cox
Desiree D
Let's drop the porn angle. And here's why:
Even though we got the green light, it doesn't mean we have free reign. It's not HBO, it's AAU.
So let's re-think the story...
As Chance deals with life without Carly, perhaps by fulfilling one need he winds up feeling even emptier about another need - (sex vs. love.)
Instead of Chance not being able to perform, it might be more interesting to see Chance after sex...and it was great...and he feels worse. More empty. Sex didn't fill the void...because it can't replace the loss of love.
i think we can write about porn without it being raunchy. though i do like the idea about great loveless sex, is no substitute for mediocre loving sex. can we somehow do both?
OK, does this mean we drop the porn itself, but keep the porn star?
Jimmy can still hook Chance up with a porn star (many good names suggested so far), and of course Morgan can still oppose it. Maybe she even tells him that sex isn't gonna solve his problems or help him get over Carly any faster or easier. But then he has to learn it for himself, cause there's no way he's gonna listen to the lesbo who stole his woman.
Back at Chance's apartment, he has great sex with her (obvioulsy, she's the best he ever had). But in the afterglow, he's more depressed than ever.
In the end, Morgan can give an antagonistic, "I told you it wouldn't help," kind of thing, perpetuating the tension between them (an important component of this second webisode).
I guess we still need some more beats to this story, though...
But we've got:
Jimmy welcoming his friend the porn star whom he summoned to the cafe to help Chance.
Morgan's opposition.
The sex scene.
The afterglow.
The aftermath (at the Cafe) with Jimmy.
The aftermath with Morgan.
Obviously these are rough and general, but does it fill out the story yet, or do we need more to go on here?
Is there a fantasy? Can anyone come up with something organic? What's he learning in this story that a fantasy might assist?
No porn. No porn star.
We want the school to say 'yes' to all of our stories. And Webisode 2 of a new series, when they have never done this kind of thing before, is just too soon for porn.
I agree with Bob. It's just like the old lady from 'Simpler Time' - it isn't necessary so we should drop it.
Are we even doing Boogie Nights then? Are we picking a whole new episode from the list?
Chris, think of the initial concept of "Boogie Nights" as the launching point to a story that's evolving.
Chance is still trying to get over Carly. But sex doesn't help. In fact, it only makes things worse. His feelings of emptiness (loss of love) are heightened. He's still on tilt.
I also want to welcome Josh to the blog. I'm glad you're now able to access it without any problem.
So should we just call it "The Sure Thing" and have Jimmy introduce Chance to a sure thing to help him get over Carly, then proceed as I outlined above (with those beats)? We could just have the girl be a bit of a bimbo instead of a porn star.
The only thing is, this sounds a LOT like The Tell...
How about Jimmy hooks Chance up with a blind date? Chance opposes at first, saying he's not ready to see anybody yet and Jimmy responds with, "who talking about seeing anyone, I think you just need to release some built up tension," or something along those lines. Morgan would, of course, tell him that sex isn't going to solve his problems, or maybe more like that's all men think about, that's their answer for everything. Chance decides to give it a shot after he sees who the girl is. He has earth shattering sex with her, but it doesn't cure his melancholy. In fact it makes it worse. However, on the reverse the girl totally digs Chance, but Chance doesn't really like her, and he feels guilty for keeping her around just for sex. So Chance now has to find a way to tell her that it's not going to work (this is after awhile and they've had multiple bouts of bedroom olympics). At the end Chance tells her it's over, and she totally lashes out at him. At the Nowhere later (or right after, depending where this all goes down). Morgan gives Chance a big "I told you so."
Something like that. That's all I can think of at the moment.
It does feel too close to "The Tell". Plus, if we have too many dating stories, we're narrowing the scope of the show's premise.
Diane likes the idea of "Chance encounters this, Chance encounters that."
There's time to make adjustments, even if we have to change to another story.
ALSO...One thing that we haven't discussed is the fact that Morgan has now decided to hang out at the Nowhere. She was new to the Nowhere when she entered with the Thermos to meet Carly. Now, she's a regular. Why does Morgan hang out there now? She's at odds with Jimmy, she stole Chance's girlfriend, and now this is her spot.
One thing could be that Jimmy has the best coffee in town. But there could certainly be other reasons.
Anyway, give it some thought.
I'll stay close to the blog tonight...
...unless you want to do a 14-way conference call.
i was thinking about that too. Maybe she lives or works close by?
also now i'm confused. what kind of story we trying to break here? are we still concentrating on the second episode? so far we only have the one dating episode right? written at least i mean.
Alright, so I've read all of the comments about where this episode is going and I love this idea of loveless sex instead of the straight out porno sinario. So here is what I was thinking:
-Chance accidently picks up Morgan and her good friend Elizabeth in his taxi.(this takes away the issue of her being a regular at the cafe. i think we should wait for Morgan to become a regular until she and Chance become friendlier). Much to Morgan's dismay Elizabeth and Chance hit it off and she gives him her card. They set a date.
-Morgan comes to the cafe to make sure that he doesn't sleep with her on the date because she's just gotten out of a serious relationship. Of course Jimmy disagrees and almost goes out of his way to piss Morgan off.
-We don't show the date or anything, just the aftermath of sex, where Elizabeth comments on how great the sex was. Chance honestly agrees, but then a wave of depression takes over. He gets up and leaves her there.
- The girl becomes obsessed and keeps calling. This should be very easy to show. Chance comes home to dozens of missed calls, all being very needy and kind of crazy. Then there is a knock at the door, he opens it, and there she is - FANTASY: the fantasy will show her insanity and jealousy towards him. He's scared for his life. (i don't have any particular images in mind, but it's like Fatal Attraction meets Single White Female).- FANTASY ENDS
- End scene is when Morgan comes storming into the cafe anraged that he broke it off with her. (This would be a great way to have conflict between the two).
what do you think?
I know we don't want to have multiple shows about dating, but if we go Lauren's route, we could show the date. Instead of just the intimate little thing between Chance and Elizabeth, Morgan tags along (a third wheel kind of a thing) just to make sure they don't sleep together. Then maybe somewhere along the way (subtext) the whole scenario would turn into an argument about Carly. I wouldn't know where to go from there, but this just popped in my head.
I like the idea of the girl becoming a stalker. In fact, we could have the same character pop in and out of various episodes harrasing Chance as the seasons go on.
I also think we need to get Chance into his cab to establish that he accually has a job. I think Lauren's idea about having the girl get into the cab would work.
As far as the dating goes this would be one episode before the Tell and we have too similar themes. The dating and the "Morgan was right Jimmy was wrong aspect". I don't think we should repeat those twice. We have also lost the punch line of Chance not being able to perform in the bedroom.
What we could do is have Chance meet the girl in the cab without Morgan. Jimmy tells him it's a great idea to releave some tension and sleep with her. Chance tries to do that, but can't get his mind off of Carly so he can't perform. Chance is embarrised and tells Jimmy. Morgan over hears and now he is the root of all her jokes. What this would also do is give Chance more of a reason to name Morgan's name in the next episode
"A Simpler Time."
Chris has some good thoughts going, and bringing back the impotence is certainly a possible angle, if that isn't over the line for our censors.
A nice thing about Lauren's idea is that it takes it out of Morgan hanging out in the cafe, which is unlikely, as mentioned. But having her storm in, pissed that Chance slept with her friend is a great way to get her in there.
It also sets up some great conflict with Jimmy/Morgan. Jimmy is celebrating him, and Morgan is pissed.
However, the question is, do we use the impotence thing or not? It would definitely come into play between Jimmy/Morgan, the way they treat Chance about it. Jimmy could be simpathetic and Morgan could tell him it serves him right.
The question is would we have them both in the cab? It seems to work better.
So, Bob, are we going with impotence here, or not?
Instead of impotence, think about these possibilities...
1. The other girl is Morgan's sister. She's nothing like Morgan. They have sister issues. Chance sleeps with Morgan's sister.
2. Or: The other girl is Morgan's ex. They wind up sleeping together. (But it doesn't have to be overt revenge. They have something in common. Morgan played a part in both characters' grief. In the story, sex is the twist, not the intention.)
a. Like Carly, the ex wasn't into women until she met Morgan. The ex lost Morgan to Carly. Chance lost Carly to Morgan. Now, Chance and Morgan's ex have something in common. They commiserate...and wind up sleeping together. (Again, it's the twist, not the intention. In fact, it's a surprise to both of them.)
b. The ex is a lesbian (or is bi-sexual)...and still winds up sleeping with Chance.
So the sexual encounter is a twist. The characters and the audience don't see it coming. When we CUT TO the post-coital scene, it's a laugh that that's where they wound up. Now, they deal with the consequences of what they've done.
ALSO: It's IRONIC that the relationship dynamics play out this way. It's not meant to set up Morgan as unlikeable at all. She's a good person, but she can also be a real heartbreaker - naturally, not deliberately. People are just drawn to her. Perhaps she's the young lesbian Warren Beatty - (which would make her even more of a threat to Jimmy. She can get the women he wants). And it would add dimension to the character.
Your thoughts...
What if Morgan has a sister who's promiscuous (even sort of slutty), and of course, Jimmy knows her! But he doesn't know anything about her having a lesbian sister named Morgan. Remember, Jimmy only knows Morgan from the thermos episode. Jimmy sets up Chance with this girl, and Morgan finds out. Maybe in the end it all blows up for them all.
OR
Regarding Bob's recent post item a), Morgan is Carly's first lesbian experience, and Morgan's most recent ex was a recent lesbian convert as well. Maybe Morgan has a thing about breaking in lebsians and helping them discover themselves and their true sexual self. It could be one of her famous "causes". Each woman is a cause. But maybe, like with Chance, Carly was so special she actually wants to live with her (season finale, right?). So Chance and Morgan's most recent ex can commiserate. She still thinks she's a lesbian, though. That way the sex becomes a major twist!
It's just some further thoughts on what Bob proposed, but we can keep formulating this, and then get a beat outline going...
PLUS, this gives Jimmy a reason to hate Morgan even more.
She's converting all the hot straight chicks into lesbians! LOL
This would work great if it was actually a girl Jimmy used to know. In fact, what if we roll a couple of these ideas into one.
Jimmy tries to set up Chance with a "sure thing" he knows. It turns out this girl is now a recently converted lesbian, thanks to Morgan (her recent ex). When Jimmy tries to set her up with Chance, "Oh, but Jimmy, I'm a lesbian now, didn't you know?" "What do you mean?" "Yeah, I met this great girl namd Morgan and she showed me the light." Jimmy's of course pissed...
Then, in the end, she ends up succombing to Chance's charms and sleeps with him. That's the twist.
Further twist: he feels terrible now, cause he really wants Carly still. Now he thinks there's hope because this one of Morgan's converts reverted back to sleeping with a man. Why can't Carly?
Just putting up some interesting thoughts...
i don't know if we should concentrate so much on the whole lesbian aspect of Morgan, yes, that's a big part of her life, but i feel like we're beginning to throw it in the audiences face too much. Like we've discussed she's more than just that... i like the idea that it's Morgan's sister, that way we get to see Morgan as a protective big sis rather than a lesbian turning "straight women into lesbians".
-okay this is kinda out there, but what if we had him meet Morgan's sister in the cab, without Morgan, and they have sex ten minutes after they meet. The sex is great, but Chance finds himself even more depressed afterwords (there could be even a look that indicates this) That could be the opening scene.(Also, we can have it where we don't know this is Morgan's sister yet until the next scene)
-Then he's in the cafe explaining what happened to Jimmy, who's all for it, telling him to go out with her again just to get laid. Morgan comes in and warns him not to go out with her, she's vulnerable, blah blah blah. He tells her that he won't-cut to next scene- he's with Elizabeth and he can't get it up. She tells him its okay, but he leaves out of humiliation.
-He asks Jimmy at the cafe what he should do, letting him listen to just a couple of the many crazy messages she's left on his cell phone.
-Then we can go into the whole OBSESSED girl FANTASY.
-He snaps out of it when Morgan comes busting through the cafe door upset at how badly he treated her sister.
...again just a thought. That way, we can include everything that we've talked about so far.
So I read everything, and because I am so fresh to this topic... I feel like I am reading "The Tell" all over again.
1. To have this episode as a dating episode, and then to repeat that again in ep4 seems too fast for me.
2. Dating, stalking, revenge, it just seems that we could stick these into "the Tell" and they would work. I feel that we need something that is organic in it's own right, that you will not really be able to stick it in any other episodes.
3. Chance sleeping with Morgan's Friend/Sister/ex-lover would not help matters at all. Morgan will consider Chance as as ass and wouldn't give him a second thought anymore. At least, that is how I see Morgan as. If we go to extremes like that, I don't believe Morgan would try to talk to Chance ever again.
-------------------------------
I do feel that we are kinda limiting ourselves to this whole dating thing. Is there anyway to open up the prospects more?
Chance is driving his cab around and picks Elizabeth up, he finds out that she is a history major, and they hit it off. They exchange numbers.
Elizabeth starts to stalk Chance at the Nowhere. Chance is completely spooked. Jimmy teaches Chance some ways to get rid of the girl.
Turns out Elizabeth is the sister of Morgan, and they set an appointment to meet at the Nowhere. Morgan hears how Jimmy and Chance are talking about her sister, and chides them for having no respect for females. She says something like "You pigs stay in the kitchens for once."
Fantasy
Chance in a house, wearing an apron, carrying a baby, beating up batter. Morgan, in a business suit returns home and sits in front of the tv. Tells Chance to bring her a beer. Chance says Yes dear. He comes over and ask her to take her shoes off the coffee table because he just polished it, and she snaps at him "YOu should show more respect for women"
End Fantasy
That snaps him back into reality.
-----------
Okay... i am just trying a different route here.
I gotta say, that's an interesting idea, and a new direction which gets us away from the dating situation.
It does get us to a fantasy as well, and one that's organic to that story. BUT, it does have Chance in a "female" fantasy twice in a row (this is webisode 2, the pilot being the one in which he's a lesbian in the fantasy).
But the idea of him having to experience life as a housewife is cetainly a new option...
But the thing is, this really wouldn't be a date episode because we show nothing of the date, we would just go right to the sexual aspect of it. And the second time around, after he promises Morgan not to see her again, and fails to get it up the second time around, Morgan wouldn't be mad, she would just poke fun at the fact that he's impotent. Because yeah, she might be pissed that he slept with her sister the first time, but if we make it so that he doesn't know it's her sister in the beginning, she couldn't truly be mad at him for it, just protective and determined it wouldn't happen again.
let me know if this isn't making any sense.
Chance runs into a friend from high school. He hasn't seen him in years. The friend has a great job, great wife, great life. Compared to the friend, Chance is a bum.
It takes dating and sex completely out of the story.
In the pilot, we dealt with Chance's personal life. Now, let's deal with his "career".
In his cab, Chance might pick the guy up. Or, Chance might be at his other part-time job, working as a bellman, and has to carry his friend's bags - (even more humiliating).
Your thoughts...
definitely liking Mr. Keats idea... will say more when I think of something to say
I like the idea of meeting the friend from high school. There could be some kind of theme where Chance was the responsible one and had the bright future and his friend was the bum in high school. Now the roles have been switched.
There could be a fantasy of Chance switching lives with his friend and finding out that it looks great on the outside, but the guy is really miserable on the inside.
Will post again when I have more details.
Definately like the direction in which Bob took it. Of the two jobs, I think the bellman would work better for the idea.
I also really like the spin Chris put on it with them switching roles (now Chance is the bum). I think that's kinda universal - everyone knows that guy where they're like. "How the fuck did he do that?" It also could be quite hilarious. I also like the hidden misery thing. We'd have to be careful though so it doesn't turn into 'Simpler Time.' If we don't do that, what other fantasy/thrust could we have? I'll write back when I have ideas.
Knowing that Chance is basically living on tips from his two part-time jobs, the friend from high school tells Chance, whimsically, (as a throw-away),that he could make more money being a bum.
Chance launches into a fantasy. He's at the end of a freeway exit ramp, holding a cardboard sign, asking for handouts. To his surprise, he's basically a human toll booth. Everyone hands him cash. He's actually doing very well.
Perhaps he shows up at the Nowhere, unshaven, in tattered smelly clothes, holding up a wad of cash, and he wants to buy drinks for everyone...but Jimmy throws him out.
Then, he approaches the front desk of the hotel and wants to stay in the Presidential Suite. They try to throw him out...but he eludes them, racing up to the suite and enters what looks like a palace...where he sees his friend from high school in the suite, which snaps him out of the fantasy.
OR:
The idea of living on handouts takes a toll on his self-esteem. He needs to work. He's financially better off begging, but, emotionally, he can't take what it's doing to him.
(That could be a different fantasy...or just a different take on the same one.)
It's a story about self-esteem.
That would tie in nicely with everything Chance is going through right now. He's on tilt after losing Carly, he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, his two jobs pay next to nothing, and this guy from high school is living the good life.
I like the human toll booth idea. It takes this story away from dating and would fit nicely in the second slot of the season.
This may be a little too far out there, but Chance could be living on the street and then he goes to urinate on the side of a building and Morgan walks by and gives him grief for polluting the environment.
You're right, Chris.
Too far out there.
Just say 'no' to urinating on buildings.
This is going a great new direction! So Chance is working his shift as a bellman and this guy from high school, who is now a very successful business man, checks in. Chance doesn't recognize him at all. Maybe he even mentions, hey I knew a guy named… in high school, but he was a total stoner (or loser, or drop out, or whatever). The guy says, "Yep, that was me!"
Chance can't believe what this guy made of himself, and vice versa. Maybe the guy even says, "Weren't you voted most likely to succeed," or, "Didn't you take a bunch of A.P. classes?" In other words something to indicate Chance's smarts and seeming scholastic success at that time vs. his crappy job now. Then he can make the comment about being a bellman. "Those guys panhandling in Union Square probably make as much as you." Perhaps it can come when he hands Chance the tip. Of course he's checking into an opulent suite (for his business meeting?). Or, how about he hands Chance a $5 bill. But he says, shit, Chance, I gave a guy in Union Square a tenner. Imagine, them making more than you? OR Seems to me you could do better in Union Square. I just gave a guy a tenner! OR, it could be as simple as giving the same amount and saying, "I just gave a guy in Union Square (or even the freeway exit ramp) the same thing, and he didn't have to schlep bags!
Maybe he can have the fantasy standing in the corridor outside the suite as soon as the guy closes the door (after handing the tip and laughing). Human toll booth on the freeway exit ramp (I suggest the Duboce exit) OR in Union Square, as the guy mentioned. As far as the rest of the fantasy, showing up at the Nowhere could work, as well as trying to check into the same hotel where he now works.
I think the question is where do we go after that? How does it end? How do we tie in Jimmy and/or Morgan?
The first question I have is, what are our limitations? For future episode ideas I think we should have a concrete idea of what we can and can't do, because some of the ideas that were taken out of play were things I have seen in sitcoms, and so I think it would be good to know where our show stands.
That being said, I like this new episode idea, but I think this guy could be somebody who wasn't friends with Chance, maybe even Chance was mean to him in HS and that's why he insists on making a point about Chance's crappy job and the homeless guy making more money.
I like what Bob said about this being a story about self esteem. Is there a way we can fit Carly into the fantasy somehow? The breakup wound is still very fresh, and it seems obvious that he would still be thinking about her and hurt from the breakup even if he doesn't mention it outside of the fantasy. While he's the homeless guy he sees her and she walks right past him, or something. I feel like maybe we could include some closure for his feelings for Carly in this episode so that in the third we can introduce Chance and Morgan's storyline.
Ok, I need to think more about this new episode and post again later.
To answer Justine's question:
The two biggest issues were:
1. Doing a porn story in the second webisode of a new series.
(It's not so much about what we can or can't do...it just sets the wrong tone for the series.)
2. Making sure we didn't hit on beats that felt too close to "The Tell".
Other than that, we're just looking at what kind of story works best for Webisode 2.
I really like Justine's idea that we focus on getting just a little more closure with the whole Carly situation. In this episode, instead of trying to think of a way for Morgan to be in it, I think that we should hear a little bit from Carly. Maybe there could be a scene where she comes to his work to drop off the rest of his stuff. i dont really see where we could fit that in with him seeing a high school friend, but it's just a thought.
here's an idea:
-Carly comes over to drop off the last of his things. They argue about what went wrong, and Carly tells im that he was selfish.
-Chance is working as a bellman at a hotel and he runs into a guy, lets call him Ryan, he knew in high school. The man is successful and has a family. He confesses to Chance that him and Jimmy(jimmy more than chance of course) picked on him, making his life for those four years difficult. He makes Chance feel like a loser for turning out so badly.
-FANTASY: He is Ryan in highschool being bullied by a teenage Chance and Jimmy. (any ideas for what they're doing?)
-He offers to take him out with Jimmy to make up for it. But when they take him out, they remember why they were so mean to him, he was a JERK and still is.
i'm reaching, but it's just a brainstorm...
I really like Lauren's last idea. It's moving away from the homeless idea, but I think it's okay. I think it also give us a chance to show Chance and Jimmy as friends and hint at their history. It's also a very funny idea, just reading about him being a jerk in high school and how he still is one made me laugh.
