So just to be clear, let me know if there are any mistakes or if I've left anything out.
--Chance in apartment presents key to Carly, she rejects him with "Sorry, I've met someone else."
--Cut to: Nowhere Cafe (CARD: Three weeks later) --> Chance is venting to Jimmy (still thinking that Carly has left him for another man).
--Enter MORGAN --> thermos debate between Morgan and Jimmy; Chance taking Morgan's side.
--Enter Carly --> passionate lesbian kiss with Morgan; jaws drop and Jimmy rails on Chance.
--Fantasy --> Chance finds himself as an indecisive activist lesbian with the goal of winning Carly's affections by trying to be like Morgan.
--End Fantasy --> "I still don't get it." --> BLACK
Did I forget anything? Is the actual beats of the fantasy the only gray area?

That sounds right.
The fantasy comes down to where Chance's motivation takes him in trying to win back Carly. I think we need to understand a bit more about Morgan, which will help give Chance some direction in where to go. If we follow suggestions and to a rally we just need to do the beats and then get into more detail after that.
JUST TO ADD to what Adam has touched on:
Fantasy- Chance finds himself as an indecisive lesbian with the goal of winning Carly's affections by organizing a rally for a cause that he doesn't really care for (what should the cause be?). When he is distracted (by Carly?), Morgan takes over, which ultamitely shows what Morgan has that he doesn't, while also validating Carly's decision to break up with him.
Is this what we decided on?
i'm down for that. so a large rally. or does it have to be a rally? could it be some sort of performance featuring lesbianism? or is that too close to Rent?
I think that's roughly what we have right now...
What if he is organizing a rally for woman rights in his school? That would give us a chance to explain his professional studentness... (just suggesting)
Oh, and I am kinda confused at who's who. Maybe leave a name at the end?
Prisc
I like the rally at the school idea.
William
i thought we wanted to stay away from actually going to his school.
That's what Bob said but I don't understand why. School is the one thing all of us have in common and we could use our experiences in our writing.
If I remember I think that Bob said we would not see Chance in a classroom. A rally can take place anywhere.
I think that if we can figure out more about Morgan and what type of causes she is into Chance will have a more clear direction for his actions in trying to get Carly back.

Totally. If Chance is supposed to experience life as a lesbian, we need to put him somewhere that would give him that experience. And something needs to happen for him to still not understand the appeal.
I agree. We'll be able to figure out how Chance will act once we place him in a situation that challenges him. It just has to be a believable situation. And maybe we can figure out what Chance thinks Morgan is and what she is interested in. He could then find out that Carly's attraction to Morgan is more than just about actions and the fact that she's a lady.
In a sense Chance takes a simplistic view of Morgan and does not realize there is far more to her than how she appears.
Since Chance saw Morgan go off on Jimmy about something in the cafe what if we have Chance stage a rally outside the shop? This would set up conflict with Jimmy and give us the ability to show Chance that Carly is attracted to Morgan not for her social causes but for whom she is.
And this is where we could have Jimmy upset about the rally but at the same time hit on Chance (as a woman). We could show two side of Jimmy that are very VInce Vaughn like.
We would have a moral to having Chance fail at getting Carly back and do it in a way that does not hit the audience over the head and then we can end on something funny and in character for Chance.
having the rally at the cafe is a great idea. let's try to not make this too complicated. get in get out.
I like that. We only have 6 minutes and in the internet world that is already too long. The quicker we deal with each situation the better.
And we get to use and exterior set, which the school has, such as The Egg or somewhere else. Some of the worst episodes of Star Trek were where they were stuck in the ship because of budget reasons.
But yeah, the quicker the better.
Great idea about the ralley outside the Nowhere, and to have Jimmy be into Chance as a lesbian.
Since Jimmy is always working a deal, how about he offers free coffee to all the women to stop the protest, or something. He starts by hitting on Chance, then trying to work the deal after he gets rejected by him/her...
Evan
I like that. So masculine and like Jimmy. Never take no for an answer. And this will give Chance an opportunity to see how some guys act towards women, thus creating conflict and a moral resolution for Chance.
He does not get Carly back but does learn an unexpected lesson.
A way we could get Morgan and posse to rally outside the cafe is for Jimmy to make one of those off-color Vince Vaughn remarks to Morgan, and she takes offense. Then... the rally stems from that.
i like the idea about the coffee, but what if it was just like a bunch of Morgans, and they all bring their jumbo sized mugs, and finally jimmy just blows up in frustration as a catalyst to diffuse the rally.
Yes... I like the idea of a rally outside the cafe.
Maybe it is because Jimmy made a huge issue about the big themos that Morgan has, and so Morgan makes all her activist friends come and try to get their themos filled, Jimmy tries to bribes these girls by offering free coffee from the paper cups in his store, but they refuse to budge. Themos or no deal.
So Chance is the one who organises this rally am I correct?
(expanding on everyone's ideas so far)
Yea, Chance organizes this rally.
And we could have Jimmy so horny at the end that he think the only way he can get a girl is to join them in the end but they figure it out so he turns to Chance as his last resort (not knowing it is Chance of course).
And this is all a fantasy so none of it has any impact on the show expect it shows us how Chance sees his friends, even it is not how they would see themselves.
This sets up the characters for later episodes and even the ability to have conflict between them when their behavior does not match Chance's expectations.
It would be nice to have this fully fleshed out by Monday so we can present it as a group and move on to writing the episode and setting up the next one. I think we are almost there with this.
So we want a rally outside the Nowhere Cafe. Now lets decide what the rally is exactly. Lesbians in office, protecting the rainforests, saving lesbian whales, gay adoption, are a few suggestions.
Morgan and Jimmy fight over her filling the thermos. Chance takes Morgan's side. Jimmy says, "You're gonna take her side?" Then Jimmy makes an offhand comment to Morgan about settling the whole thing in his bed. Morgan dumps the thermos out in the drain and tells Jimmy to keep his coffee.
In the chaos, Carly appears and kises her (to the shock of the boys, especially at this peak of tension), and asks what's going on. Morgan says, "Let's get out of this place."
This is what causes Chance to want to see what it would be like to be a lesbian and win Carly's affections. He goes into his fantasy.
The next day, Morgan brings her posse (including the now experimental lesbian Chance) to protest the Nowhere.
Isn't it enough reason for Morgan to return with a vendetta after being denied her thermos and treated lewdly by Jimmy? It creates that initial tension between Jimmy and Morgan for the series, too. And I think this way, everyone acts as a result of who they are, so it's all organic to the story:
*Jimmy always hits on girls and tries to negotiate his way out of things.
*Chance never knows who's side to take, or how everyone around him can be so certain about what they're doing.
*Carly isn't going to be around anymore, and all we need her to do is show up and drop the bomb that Morgan is the one.
Morgan comes back to protest because she is quite militant, and has a valid vendetta after the way Jimmy treats her.
Are we getting somewhere here?
so they protest the cafe for its coffee practices? i envisioned it more that jimmy agrees to let them use the cafe to get a bunch of chicks to come (so he can hit on them).
Having the protest be against the cafe sets up great tension. Now we could have Jimmy put up a pretend fuss only to secretly enjoy all of the attention.
There needs to be a motivation for the protest and having it be over a thermos will be a lot quicker than trying to explain some environmental issue. We have roughly 4 scenes mapped out and only 6 minutes, so that's around 1.5 minutes per scene.
We can show tension through actions instead of words. Put we don't want to be too detailed. Actors need to have a basic plan mapped out for them but then allowed to do their own thing.
How many of you want the story that Evan described?
And we can always use the Jimmy letting people use the cafe so he can score in another episode. Never through any idea away cause you never know when it can be used (especially in episodic films and TV).
I agree with Adam, because the rally is free publicity and free flow of chicks for the Nowhere Cafe. I think that would work out better.
Evan's idea is good though, about Morgan bringing her posse to the cafe. But I think Chance should be the one who tries to organize this rally, because Chance might see this as an opportunity to take charge, and 'show Carly who's the MAN'.
I do like the randomness of the protest, because small things like that sometimes get blown out of proportion. So maybe it could just be a 'Save the trees, use a themos' kinda thing?
i like the idea of tying in the save the trees (rally) with the thermos issue. perhaps jimmy protests the thermos idea at first like we discussed, but it's Lesbian Chance that changes his mind and convinces Jimmy to let them hold the rally there. this keeps the story plots flowing smoothly.
I like that. And the "Save a tree, use a thermos" is a great line and can be used in different ways (like promotions for the series and such).
Fantasy Breakdown-
Chance (as a lesbian) sees and opportunity to try to get Carly back so he talks Jimmy into letting him hold a rally at the cafe. Things don't work out and we discover that Carly likes Morgan for more than the social issues she's interested in. Jimmy, after hitting and missing on all the other women, hits on Chance (maybe even grabs his ass. Something more then just words). Chance then comes out of the fantasy right where he started.
Is this close?
i think we're very close. now we need for the rally to go awry. perhaps things start out smoothly, however later, things get out of hand because everybody has been drinking copious amounts of coffee all day in their jumbo thermoses and get hyped up into a frenzy, and things become more than Chance can handle. so Morgan who's used to this kind of thing and people diffuses in a cool manner, whereas Chance is a wreck.
right before the rally goes haywire, Chance is talking with Carly and gets the impression that he's advancing with her and tries to kiss her, but she backs off, when Chance asks why, he/she's can do everything Morgan can, Carly responds, "is this what you think i love about her?" just then, Jimmy comes over and tells Chance that something is wrong everybody is going crazy; leaving Chance confused, then having to deal with a situation that he cannot handle.
the people at the rally are going out of control, jumping around, smashing things, screaming, just in a really frenzied caffeine state. Chance tries to calm the situation but just get caught up in it. then Morgan stands up on a table and does the finger whistle thing to get the lunatics' attention and tells them that some other rally or something is going on in Golden Gate Park, getting the people away from the Nowhere Cafe.
Carly gets hot from Morgan's display of authority and coolly handling the situation. they leave (maybe hear on their way out Morgan saying "tonight's safety word is 'thermos'"). Leaving Chance alone with Jimmy in a destroyed cafe. Chance apologizes to Jimmy. Jimmy says it's okay, but... Jimmy then tries to kiss Chance. BAM! Back to reality. Chance "What the fuck?" BAM! Black out. BAM! BAM! BAM!
That's great. I can see it clearly. It can be so freaking funny. And we can write it for both interior and exterior sets.
My vote is that we go with this.
