So I was thinking, Chance's Man Burden is quite generic, there isn't too much of a story in the basic outline we have talked about.
But if we put it as the second last episode, it could be our lead-in to the finale.
So what if, the African-American guy, is going to be the officiator to Morgan and Carly's wedding. He is in the cafe to meet Morgan. By this time, Chance and Morgan would have been friends, more than amicable, so Morgan would introduce them. Chance, having the bomb of the marriage just dropped on him, behaves like an idiot. He unintentionally offends the guy when he all he is trying to do is not be a bumbling idiot, and acting cool in front of Morgan's friend.
We could then somehow lead to the fantasy of him being a black man, and I don't know how yet, but somehow link that to the impending wedding.
Chance might come out of this realising that the wedding is inevitable.

Yeah, I agree - right now this idea seems pretty generic. This is one possibility, can anyone think of any thing else?
Morgan dropping the bomb on Chance, telling him that she and Carly are getting married, is a big story that stands on its own. Let's keep that story and "Chance Man's Burden" separate. It will give us more time to really get into the emotional beats.
So in the Chance/Morgan arc, their friendship has a setback - which adds more dimension.
Chance and Morgan have been growing closer. Morgan is glad that Chance was able to get past the grieving stage, and no longer looks at her as the enemy.
The fact is, Chance admits, Morgan didn't "steal" Carly. Carly felt that she and Chance were already growing apart.
Perhaps one of the reasons Chance asked Carly to move in was because he was afraid he was losing her. He's never admitted that before - and now he's admitting it to Morgan.
This ties together Chance's classroom education in psychology with Morgan's natural wisdom. They have found common ground. In essence, they have found each other. The more honest Chance is with himself, the closer he's able to get to Morgan.
Morgan is so happy to hear that..."Because Carly and I are getting married."
Chance is stunned. Then, Morgan tells him that she and Carly want him to come to the wedding. Now, he can't breathe.
POSSIBLE FANTASY...
Chance is at the wedding. He tries to stop the wedding, but can't. Carly and Morgan tie the knot.
BACK TO REALITY...
Chance tells Morgan that there's no way he's going to the wedding. He tells her, "I'm not that evolved."
The webisode can end with Chance and Morgan back at odds.
But they patch things up in the season finale.
Your thoughts...
I think this is a good idea for the second to last webisode. It is a more character driven story. We don't necessarily need to tie in any "other thing", like firefighting, racism etc. It's about Chance's world, and what happens to him.
Maybe in the fantasy, he is the best man at their wedding! He fantasizes that he is "that evolved" and can fully handle it. BUT, he got his fantasy wrong again and learns that he can't!
The idea of encorporating his psychological study is nice too. It doesn't need to be specifically mentioned, but we see the result of this knowledge, as he uses it in his dscussions with Morgan.
Now we have to figure out how Jimmy ties into all this. I suppose it takes place in the Nowhere, so he'd be there already.
I guess it's clear now that Morgan doesn't end up moving in with Chance. Maybe we could have an episode where she is supposed to, and it falls apart for some reason. Well, hate to introduce another new idea here, so we can skip the fact that we even thought of them moving in and go with what we've got...
I don't think that this should be the second to the last episode. I think if we do it near the halfway mark we can slowly build to that moment. I think we cheat ourselves out of a lot of plot if we rush it into the final two episodes.
The problem with putting this in the middle of the season is that it would force the relationship between Chance and Morgan to happen earlier, and might seem less organic. Plus, we would have this wedding mentioned half way through the season and not mentioned again until the last episode. I think this would work well for the lead in to the finale.
Maybe Chance, thinking he has moved on and evolved, agrees to go to the wedding. Then he has the fantasy about the wedding, and seeing the woman he still loves marry someone else is too much for him. The episode could end when he tells Morgan he won't be going to the wedding.
OR we could have the fantasy be topical and bring in the Gay Marriage struggle into this episode. At this point in California, sadly, Morgan and Carly could not get married. I'll have to think about this more, and it may be too much for one episode, but I would feel strange doing an episode about two women getting married without mentioning what's really going on. (And if things change down the road, we could make changes to the episode.)
What do you think?
I think as the only black person in this class, take my advice when I say avoid this, “OOOhhhhh, it’s a black guy” thing like the plague. Seriously, it’s done to death and quite frankly reveals far too much about you racial inexperience. I want nothing to do with this.
I’m not usually free on Sundays but I think I can make it if I’m given enough notice ahead of time.
