"The Big Sleepover"

Just some thoughts on the "loveless sex" idea...

Jimmy has a great girl for Chance. Chance meets her. She turns out to be very beautiful...and very depressed. (Comedically depressed.)

Based on what Chance has learned in his psychology classes, he gets to the source of her depression.

CUT TO Chance's apartment. Chance and the girl are in bed, after sex. She's feeling much better...and Chance is feeling much worse. Now, HE'S depressed.

Chance realizes that he uses sex to try to fill a void inside him. But loveless sex just makes him feel even emptier. He's basically punishing himself for what he doesn't have in his life.

In Chance's fantasy, he finds himself in bed with Morgan - proof to him that he's just punishing himself.

Back to reality...
The girl wants to be with Chance all the time. But after he just slept with her, (and after his nightmare fantasy about Morgan), Chance doesn't know how to tell her that he's not interested in her.

He knows that the healthiest thing he can do for himself is to not continue his own punishing behavior.

Chance gets the courage to tell her that he doesn't want to see her romantically again. And she takes it much better than he expected...which Chance finds very attractive. Now, he wants to sleep with her. He wants to sleep with her RIGHT NOW. She thinks he's just saying it to be sweet. He insists that he's serious. She thanks him for helping her (with her depression) and for being honest with her (about not being interested in her)...and she says goodbye.

It's a possible launching point for the story. Your thoughts...

May you always have love in your blogs.

Well, this one really sounds like a big chunk of a story already. Being the dime-store shrink for this girl is an idea I've wanted to work with for quite a while, and mentioned it before in this class.

Maybe Chance can even use this skill well beyond this one girl. What if he went around trying to shrink everyone in the Nowhere? What if he at least tried to fix Morgan and Jimmy's problems. How ironic that he could have any insight at all, when he is such a mess. But isn't it the way, that the shrinks are ususally the craziest people of all...

By the way, having Morgan in the fantasy is another great example of not even being able to get his fantasies right.

I agree that this sounds like a big chunk of the story, but it feels like something's missing. Maybe shrinking at the Nowhere fills that void and it would allow us to get into the Jimmy/Morgan fued more. Although, it may become alittle too dense with all that going on. I don't know, but I like where it's going.

I love the "comedically depressed" part of this. I see this girl as the type who can cry at the drop of a hat because so many things are emotional triggers for her.

I like it too.

I also feel that there is something missing from this. Maybe Jimmy doesn't introduce them, but Chance happens on her when she is crying outside the nowhere cafe. Jimmy winks at his 'find' and Morgan disapproves of him 'taking advantage' of the poor girl.

If Morgan somehow disapproves, I feel it would enhance the nightmare of him finding himself in bed with Morgan.

If that plays out, this will be the first time that Morgan is 'wrong', because the girl is cured of her depression, which is a good thing.

Another idea that popped into my head is when Chance is in bed with the girl, he might be imagining Carly there instead. Then after a blink, it is Morgan staring up at him, which gives him a huge fright.

Chance feels like shit. But I feel that we could play that 'break-up' scene like "About a boy" where he has conjured up 300 reasons why he cannot be with her. But she thanks him for curing her instead and says they should go their seperate ways. Then Chance now feels that he likes this woman, and that they deserve a chance. The woman just smiles at him, almost condescendingly, and pats him on the cheek affectionately before walking away.

At the top of the show...Time permitting...

Jimmy does a "Be True To Your School" promotional night. Show up in your university sweatshirt and get a free half-decaf.

Business is great. The place is packed. "Comedically Depressed Girl" is there, wearing a Stanford sweatshirt.

Morgan shows up in her SWCSCC sweatshirt. Jimmy won't give her the free drink. He says it's not a real school. Morgan is completely offended and says she graduated with honors. Jimmy doesn't care. She's not getting that drink.

So the school spirit promotion sounds fun, and it gives this "new girl" a good reason to come in to the Nowhere.

Priscilla's idea about Jimmy and teh depressed girl sounds good, too. But how about if Jimmy actually tries to pick up on her and for once FAILS! It takes our nice sensitive hero Chance to get through to her. Maybe he even saves her from the big bad stud Jimmy. Then he is poised to use his psych-skills on her.

That would lead to taking her home and all the activities that Bob mentioned.

Sounds like a story coming along...

I wholly agree with the whole chance not being able to get his fantasies right, but I think him screwing it up ALL the time is a bit much. There’s a world for people who never learn from their mistakes, you can figure it out.
